Charbonnel gilder clay base is a undercoat for gilding. Gilder clay is in the form of a paste which is finally ground in the traditional manner between granite rolls. The manufacturing process ensures top quality and performance in use. Gilder clay needs to be mixed with twice its volume of a lukewarm solution of Skin Size. It may be then applied to the object which is to be gilded.
Skin size is an essential ingredient of the gilder clay mixture.
